It consists of dorsal, proximal and palmar segments that bridge the scaphoid and lunate. When the ligament complex tears, the scaphoid tends to flex while the lunate extends, creating translational and rotational instability between the two. INTRODUCTION: The Scapholunate dissociation is an injury to ligaments in the wrist that can lead to loosening of carpal bones. Scapholunate advanced collapse (SLAC) is a type of arthritis related to scapholunate dissociation . tion showed severe degenerative joint disease of the left wrist with scapholunate dissociation, scapholunate ligament tear, and avascular necrosis of the lunate (Figure 1). The patient was subsequently treated with corticosteroid injection of the wrist which only provided relief for less than a week. The scapholunate is an interosseous carpal ligament that provides stability to the proximal carpal row.

Scapholunate dissociation results from an injury to the scapholunate interosseous ligament which joins the scaphoid and lunate wrist bones together. This ligament is often torn by a fall onto an outstretched hand. This can tear the ligament, causing the wrist bones to move apart or ‘dissociate’ from one another when the wrist is used. A Scapho-Lunate Dissociation is a injury in your wrist. Two of your wrist bones, the Scaphoid and the Lunate, drift apart when an important ligament is torn (the SL Ligament). Our ligaments connect one bone to another.
